Fellowships
Many Dutch universities and institutes for professional education are conducting a growing number of their study programmes and courses in English. You will find all necessary information about studying in The Netherlands at
www.nuffic.nl. On this website you will also find information about all fellowships available for these programmes and courses.
The new Netherlands Fellowships Programme (NFP) was implemented on January 2003 and is financed out of the budget of the Netherlands Government for development cooperation. This programme focuses on meeting the need for further training and capacity building in a wide range of governmental organisations. The NFP target group consists of mid-career professionals who are already in employment and who are nationals of a selected number of countries, including Nigeria. The NFP offers fellowships for master’s degree programmes, short courses, PhD studies, tailor-made trainings and refresher courses.
Application procedure for master’s degree programmes and short courses
Check whether you qualify for the NFP (conditions are listed on the Nuffic website). You are being considered a mid-career professional only if you have at least three years of relevant, full time working experience (excluding your national service).
Apply for academic admission to the course of your choice directly to the Dutch institute offering the course. Eligible courses are listed on
www.nuffic.nl
Once the admission letter is received from the Dutch institute, you complete the NFP application form, which you can download from the Nuffic website. You have to submit the filled form with the original letter of admission from the institute sent to you.
Submit your completed NFP application form to the Royal Netherlands Embassy by mail or courier. Your application has to be accompanied by the following:
o Copy of the holder page of your passport (the expiry date has to be clearly visible and should not be sooner than at least six weeks after the end of the course).
o Original letter of conditional admission, directly from the host institution in The Netherlands.
o A letter from your employer.
o A current passport picture.
o Copies of your educational records, certified by the (Nigerian) educational institutions concerned.
In case you will be granted a fellowship, you will be contacted by the Royal Netherlands Embassy.
Involvement of the Royal Netherlands Embassy Abuja
The Royal Netherlands Embassy will forward all received fellowship applications to NUFFIC in the Netherlands. The applications should be addressed to "the Fellowship Officer" and can either be sent by mail or courier.
The Royal Netherlands Embassy in Abuja regrets however that the Embassy’s active involvement in the Netherlands Fellowship Program has been suspended till further notice.
For any information regarding the status of your fellowship application, we therefore advise you to contact the institute in the Netherlands that is giving the admissions to the course that you would like to attend.
Please be patient and do not contact the Royal Netherlands Embassy regarding the status of your application. As soon as the Embassay receives information about a person being granted a fellowship, you will be notified.
The Royal Embassy of the Netherlands avails itself of this opportunity to wish all applicants the best of luck.
