Nigeria, the Giant of Africa with a population of around 140 million, is one of the most important (if not the most important) economic partners of the Netherlands in Sub-Saharan Africa. Dutch companies have been active on Nigerian soil for more than 100 years, and are active in a wide range of businesses; from palm oil to used machinery, financial services to dairy, and from cocoa to dredging & irrigation.
Oil & gas is the most dominant Nigeria sector; also for Dutch investment in and trade with Nigeria. As the 7th largest oil-producing country in the world, Nigeria has a huge dependency on oil revenues but the last few years have shown more focus on diversification.
Nigeria is undoubtedly a country of vast opportunity, and the people are among the most entrepreneurial in the world. However, there are no easy gains in a country where poor infrastructure and an unstable security situation go hand in hand with sometimes inconsistent government policies and corruption. Obtaining reliable information as well as partners is also one of the hurdles before one can benefit from the economic growth, regional importance and huge internal market of Nigeria.
We advise only to do business with/in Nigeria based on solid research and preparations.
