Every year the Royal Netherlands Embassy lends financial support to a number of small scale community based projects.

The project should achieve:

• Poverty reduction and/or;
• Improvement of human rights and/or;
• Good governance and/or;
• Conflict prevention.

In principle the project has the following requirements:

• it must be based on a small scale local non profit initiative originating in the community agency involved;
• it must be targeted at a clearly defined group of people who are actively involved in it and prepared to contribute whatever they can to its implementation (money, labor, materials or land);
• it must be capable of being sustained by the local population once complete;
• it may not be part of a project belonging to another development agency, or of a larger project split into different small embassy projects.
• funding may not have to purpose of continuing an already existing project
• it may not take the form of charity or emergency aid, or constitute a gift or part of an election campaign;
• in principal, it may not include costs for international travels (air and land), domestic travels by air, cars, computers, laboratory necessities, labor costs, salaries, sponsorship for seminars in Nigeria or abroad, large construction projects or incidentals. All of these aspects could be part of the budget, but should be financed by the applying organization and mentioned separate from the proposed budget.
• the project may not contain aspects of evangelization or converting.
• have a budget proposal under EUR 25.000

The application procedure:

Proposals can be submitted by completing the online application form and may be sent by email to  abj@minbuza.nl or through mail to the visiting/mailing address of the Embassy for the attention of the Project Officer. In case you fill it in by hand and you need more space than is available, please continue on the back of the form or enclose the information on a separate paper. The use of this form is not compulsory. However, if you decided to write your own project proposal keep in mind that all items as mentioned below should be included.
